MANCHESTER, N.H. – Nedra F. Pettengill, 74, a longtime resident of Leeds, died March 16, at Catholic Medical Center. She had moved to Hooksett, N.H., in January of this year to live with her daughter, Cindy Pfaff and her husband, Terence, due to health issues.

She was born at home in Leeds, on May 3, 1934, the daughter of Florus and Doris Knox Additon. She attended Leavitt Institute in Turner, graduating in 1951; while attending school, she was the captain of her basketball team.

On April 4, 1953, in Leeds, she and John R. Pettengill Jr. were married; he passed away in 1993. After her children were grown, she went to work at Hood’s Mailing & Printing for many years; she later went to work for the state of Maine, Motor Vehicle Division, where she retired.

She was a member of the Maine State Retirement Association. Many years ago, she had been on a bowling league in Lewiston. When her children were little, she was a den mother and made and sold wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes. She loved to bake, go for rides, dancing, camping, especially the campfires, traveling to Prince Edward Island, Canada, Florida, Moosehead and Quebec, Canada.

She loved her family; she loved family gatherings, especially the holidays. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and companion.

She is survived by a son, Brody Pettengill and his wife, Kimberly, of Leeds; a daughter, Cindy Pfaff and her husband, Terence, of Hooksett, N.H.; five grandsons, Todd, Travis, Jacob, Trevor and Tyler; three great-grandchildren, Blake, Adriana and Isabelle; two sisters, Norrice Smith and Paula Mulherin and her husband, James, all of Leeds; and her companion, Augustive “Gus” Hood of Leeds.

She was predeceased by her husband, John R. Pettengill Jr.
