AUGUSTA (AP) – Gov. John Baldacci says the season of snowstorms and record cold is over as he welcomes the first weekend of spring.

In his weekly radio address, the governor says spring represents renewed feelings of hope, optimism and the realization that brighter days are ahead. But Baldacci says that while the weather’s getting warmer, Mainers need to keep focused on alternative energy sources.

For example, Baldacci said, offshore wind turbines have the potential to produce almost as much electricity as 40 nuclear power plants.

In the Republican response, Rep. Bob Nutting of Oakland talks about the budget and a $65 million MaineCare shortfall.

Nutting says that while stimulus money will cover the shortfall, problems will reappear down the road. He says it’s time to consider trimming MaineCare.
