LEWISTON – Dorothy “Dolly” Mae Bushie, 88, of Fayette Corner, died peacefully after a long illness on Tuesday, March 24, at Central Maine Medical Center with her family by her side.

Dolly was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Mexico, the daughter of Harris and Lucy (Goff) Birney.

She was educated in Mexico schools and on Oct. 29, 1938, she married Joel Clifton Bushie in West Peru. They settled in Fayette Corner, where they raised their eight children.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, baking, cooking, and leaf peeping in the Rangeley area. She also enjoyed Grange suppers, bluegrass music, and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of the Fayette Baptist Church.

She is survived by five daughters, Joan Fae Bailey of Livermore Falls, Mary Jane Walsh and her husband, Gerald, of Florida, Jolene Marie Kennison and her husband, James, of Livermore, Jean Mae Gray and her husband, Robert, of Fayette and June Ellen Glover and her husband, Roddy, of Monmouth; two sisters, Marie Kuvaja of Greenwood and Arlene Abbott of Mexico; three daughters-in-law, Mary Bushie of Fayette, Coralee Bushie of Augusta and Stephanie Bushie of Gardiner; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joel Clifton Bushie; three sons, John Clifton Bushie, James Clifton Bushie and Joel Harris Bushie; one brother, Linwood Burney and his wife, Gertie; and two brothers-in-law, Eino Kuvaja and Norman Abbott.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at CMMC for the wonderful treatment Dolly received while in their care.
