PORTLAND – Alfred Knowles, 87, of Portland, died early Sunday, March 29, at the Seaside Nursing Care Center.

He was born in Carthage, April 29, 1921, a son of George and Albina (Hatch) Knowles and received his education at the Intervale school on the Weld Road in Wilton. He enjoyed playing games, dancing, music, and was a Boston Red Sox fan.

He is survived by his brother and sisters, Viola Knowles and Mabel Knowles, both of Yarmouth, Orin L. Knowles and his wife, Melissa, of Chesterville and Ann Thompson and her husband, Leroy, of Farmington.

He was predeceased by a brother, Harold; and a sister, Dorothy.
