SOUTH PARIS – Joan M. Markey, 84, of Norway, died Sunday, March 29, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.

She was born in Jersey City, N.J., Sept. 22, 1924, the daughter of George and Margaret Nealen Wade.

She was a teacher and a hospital chaplain. She was a volunteer for hospice and various organizations in the area. She was involved with the Cancer Support Group and helped local church charities.

She was the recipient of the Jefferson Award. She was a retired teacher and a communicant of Saint Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Norway. She served as a hospital chaplain at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

She is survived by two sons, Mike Markey of Alexandria, Va., and Pat Markey of Destin, Fla.

She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew; a daughter, Peggy; and a son, Gerard.
