BOSTON (AP) – Former Weather Underground Organization member William Ayers will not be speaking on the Boston College campus.

Vice President of Student Affairs Patrick Rombalski issued a statement dismissing reports that Ayers would speak Monday night via teleconference.

College administrators had previously decided to cancel an appearance by Ayers at an event sponsored by two student groups.

The president of the BC chapter of Americans for Informed Democracy, Michael Madormo, says a meeting will instead be held Monday where students, faculty and administrators will discuss academic freedom.

Ayers became a central figure in the 2008 presidential campaign when Republicans criticized Barack Obama for his connections to the former 1960s radical.
