SALISBURY, N.C. – Martha W. McKay, 92, of Salisbury, N.C., formerly of the Norway-Paris area, died Friday, March 27, at Autumn Care of Salisbury Nursing Home.

She was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Warner, N.H., the daughter of George and Carrie (Dwinals) Allen. After her father’s death in 1919, the family moved to be near relatives in Maine. She graduated from Cony (Augusta) High School in 1935, and attended nursing training school at Togus Veterans Hospital.

For much of her adult life, she lived and worked in the Norway-Paris area at Wilner Wood Products Co. and at Cornwall Wood Products. She was an avid gardener and cook. After retirement, she served as site manager for Rustfield Village Elderly Apartments in Norway. She later resided for 12 years in Coos Bay, Ore., where she enjoyed growing roses and traveling the Pacific coast. She moved back east in 2002.

She is survived by a sister, Annabelle Cooper of Hemmett, Calif.; a half brother, Leslie Frost of Madera, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara A. Baty of Salisbury, N.C.; sons, George O. Hill of Plantation, Fla., Stephen R. Hill of Oxford and Robert M. Moorehead of Paris Hill; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, George Allen; sisters, Mildred Hill and Caroline Storck; and half brothers, Francis and Chester Frost.
