POLAND – Friday’s municipal elections feature three well-known public servants vying for two seats on the Board of Selectmen: Lawrence M. Moreau, Lois A. Snowe-Mello and Erland M. Torrey.

Moreau currently is chairman of the Budget Committee and the Planning Board, having served on them for eight and 12 years, respectively.

Snowe-Mello served eight years in the state House of Representatives and four years in the Senate, losing her bid for reelection last November.

Torrey is on the Board of Selectmen and has served two nonconsecutive three-year terms as selectman. He has also given 11 years to the Board of Appeals.

Voters will choose two, for three-year terms.

School Committee members Mary Ella Jones and Scott K. Sawyer are running unopposed for re-election. The terms expire June 30. In January, both were elected to the new consolidated school department with Mechanic Falls and Minot, which begins operations July 1.

Six people are running for four seats on the Budget Committee: Norman J. Beauparlant, Arthur C. Dunlap, Lionel C. Ferland Jr., Brian K. Mello, James W. Porter and Stephen E. Robinson.

The two with the highest totals will serve three-year terms, and the next two will serve two-year terms. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 3, at the Town Hall.

Voters interested in learning more about the candidates for selectmen may tune to the local access TV channel Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for a live call-in show, moderated by Eunice Suzie Stover.
