RUMFORD – The Mountain Valley High School Players will present “Sweeney Todd,” the bloody musical tale of a barber who is cheated out of his life and comes back for revenge, Friday and Saturday, April 17-18.

A barber in early 19th century London, Benjamin Barker (played by Sokseiha Moeun) has the perfect life: a flourishing business, a beautiful wife and a baby girl.

A powerful man, Judge Turpin (played by Richard Russell), decides he wants Barker’s wife (played by Kambrah Himelrick) for his own.

The judge has Barker banished to Australia, ripping him away from the life he knows and leaving him for dead.

Fifteen years later, when Barker is found floating helplessly on the ocean, he is returned to London by a sailor named Anthony Hope (played by Erich Zurhorst).

Consumed by revenge, Barker takes on a new persona, Sweeney Todd. Vowing to avenge his family, he teams up with local shop owner, Mrs. Lovett, (played by Jessie Profit) in a grotesque plan to lure the judge to his barbershop to give him the last shave he will ever need.

“Sweeney Todd” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. April 17 and at noon and 7:30 p.m. April 18. Tickets are $5.

This show is not for children; it contains violence and mature content. Mountain Valley High School is at 799 Hancock St.
