Lewiston Police Officer Tyler Michaud waves traffic past a deep sinkhole that appeared at Sabattus and Farwell streets in Lewiston late Thursday afternoon. Road crews are expected to repair the 5-foot-deep hole Friday morning. Until then, motorists are advised to find alternative routes around the area. The hole measured roughly 4 feet by 5 feet and was reported at about 5:30 p.m. Police said no vehicles struck the hole, but the closure of the intersection caused traffic snarls along Sabattus and Farwell streets as well as on nearby East Avenue.
