DURHAM – Durham Fire Department responded Friday afternoon to the first brush fire of the season. The scene was about 1,000 feet into an old tote road behind Durham Leisure Center off Route 136.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in less than two hours, Fire Chief Bill St. Michel said. The fire of undetermined origin burned about half an acre on property owned by D.L.C.’s owner Harold Cochrane.
