PORTLAND – Authorities arrested a sergeant at Cumberland County Corrections Department Thursday at the county jail after he allegedly threatened a bail commissioner and staff when he tried to bail out his girlfriend.

Charles Ryder Jr., 36, of Falmouth, was arrested today at the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for Criminal Threatening.

The warrant stems from an incident that occurred at the Cumberland County Jail early Tuesday morning when Ryder attempted to bail out his girlfriend who had been arrested for Operating Under the Influence by a local police department, authorities said in a written release Thursday.

Ryder, who was also intoxicated, became enraged when Bail Commissioner William Gorham would not allow Ryder to bail his girlfriend from jail due to his intoxicated state, the release said. Ryder also threatened corrections staff during the incident.

Ryder is being held at the York County Jail on $20,000.00 cash bail.
