PARIS – An 18-year-old Brownfield woman has been indicted on a charge of manslaughter in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Fryeburg last month.

Tiffany M. Hamlyn, of Shepards River Road, was also indicted on charges of aggravated criminal operating under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

Tiffany Hamilton, 25, was struck by Hamlyn’s Jeep near her home on Route 113, which is also Portland Road, on the evening of March 26 and died the next day. Hamilton had been walking to a cousin’s house nearby, facing traffic and carrying a flashlight.

Police spoke with Hamlyn after receiving a tip that her vehicle may have been the one that struck Hamilton. Hamlyn admitted to hitting Hamilton, but said she thought she had hit a pothole at first, according to police.

The Jeep was damaged on its right side, including the front fender, bumper, light assembly, door and mirror.

Hamlyn’s blood alcohol level registered at .17 percent, above the legal limit of .08 percent, when she was tested at the Oxford County Jail about five hours after the accident. She told police she drank some vodka after she arrived at her home and heard about the accident on a scanner.

A manslaughter conviction carries a maximum prison sentence of 30 years.
