A highlight of each public supper held by the North Turner Presbyterian Church is dessert. Oklahoma Dirt Cake is a hit at the Mud Suppers and features Oreos for dirt and lots of whipped cream and, of course, flowers.

Church supper will feature chili, chowders

NORTH TURNER – Public supper season has begun for the North Turner Presbyterian Church and a chili, chowder and stew supper will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, at the GAR Hall, Route 219.

Those attending will try some of the family recipes that have passed through several generations, including fish chowder, chicken and black bean chili, hamburger stew, homemade bread and homemade desserts.

There will be a donation basket at the door for those who can give. Who can’t are also welcome.

For those who would like a schedule of this season’s church suppers at the GAR Hall, they are as follows:

Friday, April 24, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., chili, chowder and stew.

Saturday, May 30, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. traditional ham supper.

Friday, June 26, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., cookbook tasting supper and yearly “Welcome Back to Bear Pond.”

Saturday, Aug. 22, 4 to 7 p.m., annual chicken barbecue featuring “to-go” meals for summer outings.

Saturday, Oct 17, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., annual harvest supper featuring turkey and all the fixin’s.

A new Sunday school has been opened at the church with a teacher and a guitarist working with the children on traditional church songs, as well as special music for the adults upstairs. All children are welcome.

The children attend worship service, which begins at 9 a.m., for about 10 minutes, then go downstairs for Sunday school.
