During the upcoming field season, from May through November, staff and volunteers from Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District, along with others, will survey and map the infestation of invasive plants in the Saco River area.
Assisting will be The Nature Conservancy, The Saco River Recreation Council and The Saco River Corridor Commission,
The Saco River Invasives Mapping Project encompasses approximately 20,000 acres of highly vulnerable river floodplain areas and its tributaries. It was funded by the Outdoor Heritage Fund.
People who own property within 250 feet of the Upper Saco River floodplain in the towns of Brownfield, Hiram, Fryeburg, Denmark, Stow, Lovell and Sweden and do not wish to have their land surveyed for these invasives should contact the district. If any would like to survey their own land or participate in this project, there will be a training for volunteers this spring.
