NORWAY – The record-setting weekend temperatures were perfect for breaking out the barbecues, though one resident probably wasn’t counting on five emergency departments coming to dinner.

Assistant Chief Dennis Yates of the Norway Fire Department said a structure fire was reported around 8:30 p.m. Sunday at an apartment house at 9 Pikes Hill Road.

“I guess somebody was grilling, and somebody saw flames from the grill and thought the porch was on fire,” Yates said.

Firefighters from Norway, Oxford and Paris arrived on the scene, along with the Norway Police Department and PACE Ambulance. Yates said a person at the house cleared up any confusion by saying they had been grilling food on the back deck.

“I don’t think we were there more than five or six minutes,” Yates said.
