Recently, I helped deliver blueberry pies to the offices of Sens. Snowe and Collins. But we weren’t just delivering pies — we were delivering a message. Our members of Congress need to fight for workers’ rights by supporting the Employee Free Choice Act.
In the nation’s troubled economy, working families need all the help they can get. Passing the Employee Free Choice Act, which President Barack Obama has pledged to sign, would mean more Maine workers could choose to form a union free from intimidation or harassment from their employers.
This legislation is also important for Maine’s economy. Union members earn better wages and have better health care coverage. That means more workers would spend money in their communities and help out the small businesses that are the fabric of the state’s economy.
I hope that all Maine’s members of Congress work to make the Employee Free Choice Act law.
