RUMFORD – Eleanor May O’Leary Patrie, 84, died Saturday, May 2, on her birthday at the Rumford Hospital after a brief illness.

She was a longtime guest of the Rumford Community Home, where she could be found reading in the lobby, playing bingo, participating in sing-a-longs and working with the priest at Mass.

World War II found her building ships in Florida, and South Portland for the war effort. She later retired from the paper mill in Rumford.

She was a wonderful stepgrandmother to her seven grandchildren and her 35 nieces and nephews, who will cherish her memory forever.

Survivors include stepsons, Barry A. Patrie and his wife, Donna, of North Waterford and David M. Patrie and his wife, Joanne, of Syracuse, N.Y.; seven stepgrandchildren; a sister, Mary Lou O’Leary Doyle and her husband, Christopher, of Dunwoody, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Virginia of Mexico and Lucille of Riverside, Fla.; and brother-in-law, Girard Lambert of Rumford.

The second of nine children, she was predeceased by her husband, Alphonse J. Patrie II.; her parents, Daniel and Lucille O’Leary; five brothers, Donald, Gordon, Ivus, John and Gerald; and two sisters, Dorothy A. Hosie and Geraldine Lambert.
