WOODSTOCK – Selectmen on Tuesday awarded the contract for mowing town properties to Wesley Cox for $2,450.

It was the lowest of six bids. The others were: $7,000 from Jennifer Pease, $6,100 from F.B. Lawn Care, $2,849 from Korhonen Land Care, $2,750 from A&G Property Management and $3,900 from Phil Smith.

“I am surprised with the number of bids for mowing because we’re usually lucky to get one. So it’s good to see that so many are interested in the job,” Selectman Rick Young said.

The mowing includes ball fields, the town beach and playground, the boat landing on Lake Christopher and the Town Recreation Building, which is the old fire station.

In other business, the board considered signing an agreement with P.A.C.E. Ambulance service but wants it in writing that the service house an ambulance in the town garage daily.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield announced he will mail 150 30-day notices for 2009 unpaid property taxes. He expects that number will be lowered to about 80 during the next few weeks as people attempt to pay up.

“The number of notices are about the normal I see every year so the number doesn’t come as any surprise to me,” Maxfield said.
