AUBURN – Daniel Jay Osmeloski, 54, of 1 Whitney Road, Gray, passed away Tuesday, May 5, at the Hospice House in Auburn, following a long battle with cancer.

Dan found pleasure in many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing and snowmobiling, as well as a lifelong passion for motorsports, racing for many years as a competitor at tracks across the Northeast and spending time as crew chief for fellow racers. He spent several years serving as president of the New Gloucester Snowmobile Club and enjoyed grooming and riding the local trails.

Born on Aug. 5, 1954, in Queens, N.Y., Dan lived most of his life on Long Island, N.Y., before moving to Maine in 1987. After working several years as a foreman for Warren Mechanical, he became licensed in Maine as a Master Plumber and operated his own plumbing and heating business in Gray-New Gloucester until 2007.

Dan was especially impressed with the love and support offered by his long-time friends, and most valued their frequent visits, as well as having family by his side during his long illness.

He is survived by two daughters, Elisabeth and husband, Matthew Ostrander, of Sandy, Utah, and Christina Osmeloski of Reston, Va.; sister, Trish and brother-in-law, Jim Mulcahy, of Windsor, S.C.; close friend and cousin, Georgia Reymann of Queens, N.Y.; and former wife, Marianne Parker of Durham.
