Board: Lisbon Town Council

Met: Tuesday

Issue: Voters soundly defeated a $500,000 bond request that would have paid for studies on the feasibility of building a new high school and/or renovating.

Up next: It’s back to the drawing board for the School Committee. In a workshop with the Town Council, committee members discussed the possibility of adding four to five classrooms to the high school; the council offered its support.

Issue: Councilors reviewed their budget workshop schedule, which they plan to finish by the end of the month. They will attend the Monday night School Committee meeting to hear Budget Advisory Board recommendations on school spending, and will hold a municipal budget workshop on May 14.

Action: Councilors approved a request for $2,000 in recreation funds to make improvements to the Pinewoods Road recreation area. The money will come from snowmobile refunds from the state and will fund material only.

Action: A license was granted to Greg Morse, doing business as Sabattus Creek Mobil Home Park. The council voted to issue future renewals for permits, games of chance, tournaments and other designations without public hearings.

Upcoming: Beginning June 2, councilors will review on a monthly basis land-use ordinance changes that have Planning Board approval. The ongoing review is an effort to make sure ordinances are compatible with the requirements of the Town Charter.
