AUBURN – Joseph Albert Cyr, 91, of 36 Hilltop Avenue, Lewiston, died Thursday, May 7, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn.
Born in Portage Lake on April 8, 1918, he was the son of Denis B. and Edith Violet Cyr. Educated locally, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he moved to California for 35 years and was employed as a machinist by the Pacific Scientific Co., returning to Maine in 1988.
A member of Holy Cross Parish, he was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, and also belonged to the DAV, the VFW, and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, the former Dorilda Albert of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Alphonse, Levite and Tony Cyr; and four sisters, Irene Brocker, Elise Cyr, Aurelie Martin and Mary Jane Caron.
