BENTON, N.H. (AP) – New Hampshire authorities say a Massachusetts man who went hiking in jeans and sneakers and a garbage bag as a raincoat is lucky he escaped injury in the White Mountains.

The Department of Fish and Game says 38-year-old Keith Owns of Cambridge was hiking Mt. Moosilauke on Sunday with three friends he had met on the Web site Craigslist. Owens suffered leg cramps on the way up the mountain, but the group continued to the summit. He had to be helped down after they hit rain and sleet, and the group separated.

Conservation Officer Gregory Jellison says the hikers were lucky to emerge with just cold feet given that they were unprepared for the weather and did not stay together.
