FORT WORTH, Texas – Leroy “Bill” Lovewell, 70, of Granbury, Texas, died early Sunday, May 10, after a long illness in Ft. Worth, Texas.

He was born May 23, 1938, at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston, and raised by his beloved grandparents, Fred and Bertha Lovewell in Fayette. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and retired from the Maine Turnpike Authority in 1990. He raced stock cars at Oxford, Beech Ridge, Arundel and Wiscasset and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his good friends, Charlie Cole of Kennebunk and Nick Nichols of Gardiner, among others. He was a native of Wells until he relocated to Las Vegas, Nev., after retiring. This is where he dabbled in the antique business with his wife until moving to Granbury, Texas, a few years ago.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Bette Mori Lovewell of Newcastle, N.H.; his loving daughter, Heidi Lovewell of Las Vegas; two stepsons, Ronald Sanborn and Kevin Sanborn, along with his lovely wife, LouAnne, all of Granbury, Texas; he had four adoring grandchildren, Marina Ramon of Las Vegas and Brent, Brittany and Brooke Sanborn of Granbury, Texas; he was the eldest of nine brothers and sisters, Elaine Pulk of Lisbon Falls, Monty Hartford of Monmouth, Alfred “Bub” Smith of Lisbon Falls, James Smith of Bowdoinham, Gail Baker of Leeds, Blaine Smith of Leeds, Fred Smith of San Mateo, Calif., and Aldred Smith of Bowdoin; two stepsisters, JoAnne Nelson of Portage and Jacqueline Spear of Lisbon Falls.

He was predeceased by his mother, Elsie Smith of Lisbon Falls; and brother, Fred Smith of San Mateo, Calif.

Arrangements are being made by Wiley Funeral Home of Granbury, Texas, but no funeral services are scheduled at this time.
