PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Firefighters, police and the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office have undertaken an investigation into a fatal fire that broke out Monday night in a Portland apartment building on Cumberland Avenue.
Portland Fire Chief Fred LaMontagne said one person was found dead. The person’s identity was not immediately released.
The Portland Press Herald reported that firefighters blocked off most of Cumberland Avenue between High Street and State Street.
LaMontagne said one firefighter was treated for a leg injury and released.
The Press Herald reported that smoke was reported around 6:35 p.m.
