PORTLAND (AP) – A woman who police say was found slain in a Portland apartment has been tentatively identified as an 18-year-old former Deering High School student who was living in South Portland.

Police say they’re awaiting a DNA exam to confirm the identification of Zoe Sarnacki.

The man accused of the killing, 27-year-old Chad Gurney, was in court Wednesday on charges of murder and arson.

Gurney was arrested at an Old Orchard Beach motel on Tuesday, hours after the Monday night blaze. He was located after a motorist who was stopped for a traffic violation said he was talking to Gurney by cell phone. An officer talked to Gurney and convinced him to surrender.
