LITTLE VALLEY, N.Y. (AP) – A 20-year-old western New York man is accused of leading deputies on a three-mile, off-road chase through Amish country in a horse and buggy.

Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies say they were trying to stop Jonas Hershberger when he drove through fields and into woods in the town of Napoli (nuh-POH’-lye), eventually abandoning the buggy and running away.

Deputies arrested Hershberger at a nearby home. He’s charged with overdriving of animals, reckless endangerment and obstructing governmental administration.

Hershberger was arraigned and bail was set at $250. Court officials in Napoli couldn’t be reached to say whether he has a lawyer.

A phone listing for Hershberger couldn’t be found. It wasn’t immediately known whether he’s Amish.
