FARMINGTON – The work of more than 50 local artists goes on the block Saturday during the third annual Fine Arts Auction.

The auction, slated to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Bass Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital, will be preceded by an art preview starting at 5 p.m., said Cindy Kemble from the Fairbanks School Neighborhood Association, sponsor of the event.

Along with the usual acrylic and oils, this year there is a focus on functional art, Kemble said. There is a tremendous amount of items such as stacking tables, chairs, an entertainment center, make-do cupboards, stained-glass lamp and stained-glass window insert, she added.

“I’ve always thought how wonderful it is to have such a diversity of artists in the area,” she said. “There’s a little bit of everything including jewelry, painted glass goblets and birch bark games pieces.”

The posthumous work of three artists, Davis Burnell, C.R. (Bob) Tyler and Anna Kershner, along with several new artists, are included in the auction this year, she said.

During intermission, a handmade dollhouse by Lenny Ellis will be raffled off, she added. Ellis based the dollhouse on the pattern he used for a house he made and sent to the daughters of President Obama, she said.

Each piece of furniture is handmade and signed and there’s a fireplace in it. The house is worth $1,000, she added. Raffle tickets may be purchased in advance and ticket holders do not have to be present to win.

David Hovey will also provide musical entertainment on the piano during the evening. Refreshments and a cash bar are available.

A portion of the art sale helps the FSNA continue its work on the Fairbanks School while local artists benefit from the sale of their work. The FSNA hopes to raise funds to help with paving, landscaping and creating the shared-use kitchen and other items needed inside.

“We hope there will be a good turnout like previous years. It’s local art offered at a good, reasonable price,” she said.

Tickets to the art auction are available at Calico Patch and Mickey’s or at the door, she said.

Participating artists and items included in the auction are provided by Jamie Ranger, Kay Seefeldt, Janalee Welch, Anne Wehrman, Sharon Barker, Eileen Laperle, Jim Desjardins, Becky Pepper, Matt Frost, Josh DeMello, Don and Anita Waterhouse, Mira Coleman, Dianna Poulin, Mark Simpson, Lucia Swallow, Tom Higgins, Christine Higgins, Mike Chase, Heidi Judkins, D& J Maxham’s Heirlooms of Tomorrow, Molly Reed, Eileen Kreutz, Danielle Guerrette, Brent Surowiec, Martha bond, Jenny Davis, Dr. Johanna Haskell, Erin Seegers, Dr. Susy Saunders, Lori Hutchinson, Ulrike Stadler, Mary McFarland, Joyce Dubay, Nancy Teel, Karen Crouse, Steve Hodgkin, Mara LeBlanc Hodgkin, Ed Westgate, Mark Prentiss, Peter Dumont, Emily Hartung, Deb Auch, Northern Lights, Mark Stofan, Marni Lawson, Mardy Bogar, Megan Roberts, Lori Richards, Sherri Jewell, Divine Inspirations, Charles Holland, Gayle Barigar and Scott Perry.
