PARIS – Voters will act on 32 articles at their annual town meeting Saturday. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at the fire station.

Several articles ask to appropriate funds. Municipal expenses for the town stand at $3,194,434, a decrease of $22,539 over last year’s budget. The selectmen and Budget Committee do not differ in their recommendations for department budgets.

The budget reduces hours for the town clerk and two front office clerks from 40 to 36 per week, with a reduction in the code enforcement officer’s hours from 40 to 32 per week. A part-time recreational director position has been eliminated, and a full-time police officer’s position frozen, though a part-time Highway Department position has been reinstated. The budget also includes money to hire a clerk to work at the police station to allow the clerk there to focus on general assistance tasks and the clerical functions of the tax assessor.

Municipal employees will receive a 3 percent increase in salaries under the budget. Town Manager Sharon Jackson is budgeted to receive a $75-a-week salary increase from $1,158 to $1,233, while tax assessor John Brushwein’s salary is set to increase from $22.27 per hour to $24.05 per hour.

One article asks if the town will approve an order to close the Colby Farm Road to winter maintenance between Nov. 1 and April 30 of each year for 10 years. The road was recently declared a town way after a court decision.

Voters will decide whether to amend the agreement of the town with Norway-Paris Solid Waste for the disposal of waste generated in the two towns. The amendments must be accepted by both towns to go into effect, and include the expansion of the solid waste board and hiring of a manager for day-to-day operations.

The town will also decide whether to waive automatic foreclosure on the former A.C. Lawrence Leather Co. site on Oxford Street. The Environmental Protection Agency completed a $4 million cleanup effort at the site in 2007 that removed 33,000 tons of chromium waste. The town has waived foreclosure since the tannery closed in 1985.

Elections for municipal officials and ordinances will be held Tuesday.
