AUGUSTA (AP) – The state energy office says heating oil jumped 12 cents a gallon during the past week, raising the statewide average cash price to $2.27.

Actual prices found in the survey ranged from a low of $1.95 in southwest and western Maine to a high of $2.52 in the northern part of the state.

The average price of kerosene was $2.70. Natural gas averaged $11.30 per 1,000 cubic feet, which is equivalent to heating oil at $1.53 a gallon.

Director John Kerry of the Office of Energy Independence and Security noted Monday that the price of crude oil has risen nearly $33 a barrel since the market hit bottom in February. He said it’s time for households to prepare for the coming heating season.
