PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) – A Portsmouth, N.H., woman has pleaded guilty to stealing her nanny’s identity to obtain credit cards and run up debts totaling $61,000.
According to court documents, 40-year-old Ramie Marston hired the woman in 2007, invited her to live in her home and then spent months using credit cards she obtained with the nanny’s Social Security number. She pleaded guilty last week to several fraud charges and was ordered to pay the victim $42,000 for personal property stolen separately from the credit card fraud.
The victim told the Portsmouth Herald that Marston stole everything from underwear to silverware and that her life was destroyed. Marston’s lawyer says his client has taken responsibility for her conduct and wants to put it behind her.
