LEWISTON – Thelma F. Ramsdell, 88, a longtime resident of State Street in Augusta, passed away Monday, June 8, at Montello Manor Nursing Home. She had resided at Montello Commons since January 2008.

She was born in New Vineyard, on May 14, 1921, the daughter of Shirley M. and Effie (Crandall) Ramsdell. She was educated in Farmington schools and graduated from Farmington High School in 1939. After high school, she worked for attorney Ben Butler in Farmington and later moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Veterans’ Administration (VA) for one year. She returned to Maine and became an employee of the Veterans’ Administration Center in Togus, completing 35 dedicated years and retiring in 1977.

She held many positions at Togus during her years there and received several awards for her outstanding performance. She enjoyed many years traveling with her sisters throughout Maine and New England. She also enjoyed the time she spent attending family gatherings. She had a great love for tennis, never missing a match. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by her family.

She is survived by her brother, Richard Ramsdell of Jay; her brother-in-law, Blaine M. Davis of Lisbon Falls; several nieces, and a nephew.

She was predeceased by her parents; and sisters, Winona Davis in 2008, Irene Swift in 2007, and Gladys Fraser in 1989.
