OXFORD – Dennis Sanborn and Floyd Thayer won re-election to the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday.

In the first town election at the polls, Thayer was the top vote-getter with 176. Sanborn narrowly defeated political newcomer Tim Wing, 127-123.

Moments after learning of the tally, Wing said he will not ask for a recount but he is not out of the political arena yet. “Absolutely,” he said of the chances he will run for selectman next year.

Thayer said prior to his re-election that bringing jobs to the town is the most important challenge facing Oxford.

Sanborn, who has served on the board for nine years, said resolving the Robinson mill sewer treatment plant situation is one of the most important issues currently facing the town. His other priorities are finishing up road repair jobs and spending more money on cemetery care.

Also re-elected were John Palmer to the SAD 17 Board of Directors with 224 votes, Fire Chief Scott Hunter with 223 votes, and Oxford Water District Trustee Penny Lowe with 234 votes. All three were unopposed.

Voters approved amendments to the Flood Plain Management Ordinance to meet state mandates for flood insurance, 168-52.
