Dear Sun Spots: The Civil War Re-enactment at Norlands recently weekend was a huge success because of the incredible support from so many people. I’d like to extend a public thank you to everyone who contributed to help us accomplish it all.
First, a thank you to the many visitors who supported this event by spending their weekend with us: we were delighted to see you.
Next, a large thanks to each member of the three Maine Regiments: Third Maine Company A, Fifteenth Alabama Company G and Twentieth Maine Company B. You planned and presented a delightful two days of “stepping into history” through talented interpretation and your efforts made Norlands “come alive.”
And then, a huge thank you to all the volunteers who donated so much time, energy and talent to do so many things: cleaning, organizing, interpreting our buildings, taking pictures, giving wagon rides, cooking, serving, studying, sewing, preparing the grounds, moving chairs and tables, making signs, controlling the parking, singing, and more. The success of the event is attributable to everyone. Thank you all. — Nancey Drinkwine, volunteer coordinator, Washburn Norlands Living History Center.

• For Margaret from Strong inquiring about a Books are Fun sale, Crystal Small at the Margaret Murphy Center for Children in Lewiston was kind enough to connect Sun Spots with Mark Drinkwater, a Books are Fun representative for the area. He and his wife Laurie will have a Books are Fun sale, open to the public, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at their home, 26 Sawyer Road, Poland. Using their three-car garage as a warehouse, they’ll hold the sale rain or shine.
Books are discounted 50 to 75 percent off the retail price and include children’s books, cook books and educational books for teachers, just to name a few. For more information, Mark can be reached at 831-7802.
Dear Sun Spots: My son’s class will be doing an all-male fashion show during Phillips Old Home Days in August as a fundraising event for his class trip. We are looking for donations of wigs and costume jewelry for our male models. If there is anyone out there that can help, please e-mail Sharon at mainebuttahfly@yahoo.com. — Sharon, Philips.
