Fernand ‘Fern’ Brochu
1937 – 2009

HIGGANUM, Conn. — Fernand “Fern” E. Brochu, 72, of Shore Drive, Higganum, Conn., formerly of Lewiston, husband of the late Irene T. (Fraser) Brochu, died Saturday, June 20, at his home.

He was born in Lewiston, the son of Blanche (Langlais) Brochu-Legendre of Lewiston and the late Ernest J. Brochu, Jr. and his stepfather, the late Maurice A. Legendre.

Fern, a veteran of the Vietnam War, served and retired with the U.S. Air Force and the state of Connecticut Department of Corrections. He was a lifetime member of the Haddam VFW and the Freemason with Granite Lodge 119 in Haddam.

He is survived by his mother, Blanche (Langlais) Brochu-Legendre and his brother, James R. Brochu and his wife, Ivy, of Lewiston; his stepbrother, Alfred Legendre and his wife, Carol, of Knoxville, Tenn.; a stepsister, Diane Joy-Smith and her husband, Raymond, of Virginia; a daughter, Joni A. Manter and her husband, Michael, of Middletown, Conn.; three sons, Dana E. Brochu of Higganum, Eric A. Brochu Sr. of Meriden, Conn., and Tony A. Brochu Sr. of Lithia, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Vanessa Chapman and Michelle Manter of Middletown, Eric A. Brochu Jr. of Higganum, James R. Brochu of Meriden, Courtney Brochu of Burnham, Tony Brochu Jr. and Mikiala Brochu of Lithia, Fla.; and a great-grandchild, Daniel Brochu of Higganum.

He was predeceased by his sister, Marlene Lauze.
