FARMINGTON — Derbies to fish for rainbow trout in Rollo Pond are not just for children this year.
Farmington’s first fishing derby for developmentally disabled adults is off to a good start, Recreation Director Steve Shible said.
Planned for Friday at 11 a.m. at Rollo Pond in Abbott Park on the University of Maine at Farmington campus, several participants have registered for the hourlong derby. Three will be casting their lines from wheelchairs, he said.
Expecting this to be a very special time for a special population of the community, Shible said residents who want to come watch and support the fishermen are welcome.
This derby follows a Recreation Department fishing program for children starting at 9 a.m. Friday where the basics of fishing are taught.
The annual Flagg Family Fourth of July fishing derby for youngsters up to age 10 begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at Rollo Pond.
