Harvey L. Patry
1926 – 2009

BIDDEFORD – Harvey L. Patry, 83, of Cape Elizabeth, died on July 1, at the Southern Maine Medical Center, after a brief illness.

He was born in Lewiston, on March 3, 1926, the youngest son of Laurier and Laure Gamache Patry. Educated in local schools and a graduate of Lewiston High School, he was a fixture in the Lewiston business community and a life-long entrepreneur. He began his lifes work with his father and brothers at the family business, Reliable Roofing, and its successor, HEFCO.

Later he founded Reliable Oil Co. and Al’s Sport Center. His love of tennis led to the creation of Central Maine Tennis in Lewiston and The Tennis Racket in South Portland. During his time in Lewiston, he served on the boards of Northeast Bank and St Mary’s Regional Medical Center. In his retirement, he dedicated his energies to helping restore Atlantic Salmon to the Saco River and to fundraising for the the Saco River Hatchery and the Salvation Army.

In 1948, he married Mariette Therese Corriveau, who passed away in 1989.

They are survived by seven children; Denise Leidy of Greenwich, Conn., Marc Patry of Lewiston, Claire Sweeney of Airmont, N.Y., Jules Patry of Lewiston, Gisele Patry of Ridgefield, Conn., Norman Patry of Westbrook, and Shoeleh DiJulio of West Lake Village, Calif.

In 1991, he married Victoria Zdanowicz of Portland and added four children to the family; James Wyse of Haverhill, Mass., Carolyn Kirk of Scarborough, Joseph Wyse of Falmouth, and Paul Wyse of Prescott, Ontario.

He is survived by his wife Victoria, their 11 children and 15 grandchildren.

He will be remembered for his joie de vivre, his generosity, his passion for fishing and his abiding love of family.
