Louise May Field

1917 – 2009

LEWISTON- Louise May Field, 92, of Lewiston died on Wednesday, July 8, at Montello Manor.

She was born in South Portland, May 28, 1917, the daughter of Reginald and Lillian (Peterson) Richards, and was the eldest of 11 children.

She grew up in South Portland and in Monmouth at the Woolworth Estate. She was a graduate of Auburn Maine School of Commerce. In October 1941, she married Raymond R. Field of Lewiston. Together they began Ray’s Egg Service, which processed and delivered eggs. She enjoyed many lobster cook outs at her ocean camp in Harpswell and Thanksgiving dinners in the wilds of the Maine North Woods. She loved traveling and visited every state except Alaska. She was a member of Thorns Corner Grange and Eastern Star.

After Ray’s death in 1966, she operated Fluffy Diaper Service. Then she became a certified nursing assistant at Central Maine General Hospital, where she retired. Family focused, she never forgot a birthday, her hands were always busy making gifts. “Sisters Week” twice each year was time to have silly sister fun or do crafts to prepare their huge family Christmas gatherings. Also, there were daughter/daughter-in-law get aways. She played bingo with friends, up to seven times a week, including trips to Foxwoods. Her garden and flowers at home were such a pleasure for her. She truly enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox games and talking and sleeping with her Siamese cat Sam.

She will be fondly remembered as a loving, giving, and caring soul whom always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She had a huge capacity to love and made every person in her life feel special.

She is survived by her sons, Frederick and wife, Brenda, Richard and wife, Suzette, Douglas, Daniel, James and wife, Gina and and Rodney Hunnewell and wife, Joan; daughters, Bertha and husband, Erlon Ricker, Linda Littlefield, Kathleen Field and a special daughter, Judy and husband, Bill Dubois; sisters, Ruth and husband, Gene Crovo, Carol French, Betty White, Doris and husband, Dick Seger and Nancy and husband, Charles Grant; brother, David and wife, Ruth Richards; and if we could name all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren it would take the whole page, but they all so proudly love their Gram.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ray; infant daughter, Susan Field; grandson, Michael Field; stepdaughters, Gloria Therriault and Ruth Weston; brothers, Reginald Richards; infant, Robert Richards; and sisters, Rhonda Pettingill and Edith Libby.
