LEWISTON — R.C. & Sons Paving, 942 Main St., has recently opened an asphalt plant in Augusta. It also operates one in Auburn.
The business began in 1976, founded by Romeo, Maurice and Richard Cloutier, with Maurice Cloutier taking over sole ownership in 2000. Working with his sons, Claude and Mike, Maurice Cloutier opened the company’s first asphalt-producing plant in Auburn in 2003. It produces material for paving projects of the Maine Department of Transportation, Maine Turnpike Authority and the company’s own clients. The Hotel Road plant has the capacity to generate 120 tons of asphalt per hour.
The plant opened in 2003 with the goal to double sales within a few years, according to Claude Cloutier, and the expansion to Augusta will help the business meet that demand. The opening of the new plant will add 14 new jobs to the company, which employs 25 in Lewiston-Auburn.
