Laurence Marie Fortier-Goulet
1920 – 2009

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – Laurence “Laurie” Marie Fortier-Goulet left this world to live with Jesus on Friday, July 3, at the age of 89.

On July 1, 1920, Laurie was born in Berlin, N.H., as the daughter of Joseph Pierre Chouinard and Georgianna Fleury. She attended schools in Maine and New Hampshire, concluding at Riviere College in Nashua, N.H. She moved to Lewiston in 1946.

Laurie worked in many positions, including one with Dr. R. J. Wiseman, Health Officer, City of Lewiston, and then as a librarian, until her retirement, at Bates College. She was actively involved in many charitable organizations as a volunteer in Maine and Texas.

Laurie is survived by a loving companion of 10 years, Fred Ampelas of New Braunfels, Texas; a daughter, Michele Bateman and husband, Rhon, of New Braunfels, Texas; a sister, Edith Hawkins of Berlin, N.H., and her daughters Gail and Cynthia; a sister-in-law, Jean Chouinard of Rutland, Vt., and her daughters, Rachel and Sarah; grandson, Col. Kenneth D’Alfonso, his wife Laura, and their children, Luke, Cole and Faith; grandson, Dr. Robert D’Alfonso and his fiancée, Allison Dorman; granddaughter, Angela Fiedler and her husband, Chris, and their son, Hagen; nephews, Dennis Fortier of New Hampshire, and Roland Fortier of Florida; and niece, Helen Brown of Massachusetts.

Laurie was predeceased by husbands Robert Fortier (in 1969) who owned the Style Beauty Salon in Lewiston and Forest Goulet (in 1998) who owned the F. R. Goulet Barber Supply Co. in Lewiston; a brother, Garnet Chouinard (in 1998) of Rutland, Vt.; and a great-granddaughter, Sasha Michele Fiedler of New Braunfels, Texas.

All will miss her.
