Alumni Association held its annual alumni banquet

DIXFIELD — The Dixfield/Dirigo Alumni Association held its annual alumni banquet on June 20 at the T.W.  Kelly Middle School. One hundred and thirty-one members attended a social hour and potluck supper.

Bill Waterhouse ’59 announced that his class would like to sponsor a scholarship in the name of Lincoln Gordon, a former teacher and coach.

The oldest class represented was 1935 by Thirza Holman Towle and the youngest class, 1977, by Julie Arsenault Reid and Terri Park Cox.

Scholarship Committee representative Jon Holmes announced this year’s recipients are Rachel Child, Jazmine Virgin-Brooks, Ben Harlow, Jennie Skillin and Samantha Sawtelle. Each student will receive $1,000. He also reported that enough money in dues and donations allowed a sixth scholarship to be awarded to Katlin Rock.

Nat Weston, 95, former teacher and music director from New Harbor, was accompanied by David Young ’60. The following states were represented by members who traveled to attend: California, New York, Texas, South Carolina, Indiana, Florida, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Holmes read a poem titled “Class Reunion.” The 50/50 was won by Judy Horne, who returned her winnings to the alumni.
