AUBURN — The Elliot Avenue Little League 11-12 all-star team recently won the District 5 championship played at the New Auburn Little League complex.
Outstanding team defense and pitching helped secured the team’s second consecutive championship. Lewiston defeated Winslow in the championship game, 2-0. Lewiston had topped Auburn Suburban 4-1 in the opening round, followed by a 1-0 pitching duel verses Winslow. In Game 3, Lewiston beat Augusta 7-4 to secure a berth in the championship game.
Pitchers Nick Belanger and Kyle Lemlin were a combined 4-0. Belanger pitched 12 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and five walks and struck out 19 batters in two games. Lemlin allowed no earned runs on four hits with one walk and 24 strikeouts in 12 innings. Caleb Dostie led the team in hitting.
Lewiston advances to the Maine State Championship, which begin July 26 in Thomaston.
