David Wilcox of Russell Street, Lewiston, is the proud possessor of a possum which he received recently from his brother in Mississippi. It is a regular southern possum and is quite an attraction for Mr. Wilcox and his friends.

50 years ago, 1959

Mrs. Gaudelie Voisine of 106 Rosedale St., manager of the Niagara of Lewiston store, will attend the 10th annual Niagara Therapy Corp. convention at Havana, Cuba, from July 29 to August 2, it was announced yesterday. More than 1,000 salesmen and dealers are expected at the meeting to be held at the Havana Hilton Hotel.

25 years ago, 1984

James “Ox” Van Hoften, who flew aboard the April 6 flight of the space shuttle Columbia, will speak at Thursday’s noon meeting of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club at Steckino’s Heritage House in Lewiston.

Van Hoften will present the club its banner and a signed scroll the club sent him to carry aboard the Columbia on his trip.

The Rotary Club will follow the luncheon with a 5 p.m. Downeast cookout on the grounds of Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute.

Van Hoften has logged 168 hours in space. As a Navy pilot he logged 2,800 hours flying time and received the Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
