RUMFORD — Thelma Shaw Berry, 85, of Dixfield, died Thursday, July 30, at Rumford Community Hospital.

She was born March 10, 1924, in Greenwood, the daughter of Harold and Janette (Staples) Shaw. She was a graduate of Mexico High School. On Aug. 18, 1951, she married Ruel W. Berry in Carthage. He died May 29, 1983.

For many years, Mrs. Berry was employed at Diamond International. She enjoyed volunteering at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and was a member of Santa’s Helpers. She took great pride in caring for the elderly and helping others.

Her hobbies included gardening, knitting and ceramics. She was always known as “Grammie Sunshine” to all of her grandbabies.

She is survived by a sister, Clarice Carrier of Carthage; a sister-in-law, Shirley Staples of Lisbon Falls; a daughter-in-law, Jean M.
Shaw of Roxbury Pond; six grandchildren, Kim Akers, Kristine Adams and her husband, Kenny Adams, Lewis Stetson and his wife, Amy, Amanda Sharkey, Charity Blackburn and Michael Sharkey; several great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Hailey, Jeffrey, Hannah-Sue, Justin, Lauran, Bailey, Logan, Cynthia, Thomas, Mathew, Christopher, Lilah and Kassey; and one great-great-grandson, Camryn.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, John Shaw; two daughters, Cynthia Sharkey and Elizabeth Stetson; a brother, Floyd Staples; and a grandson-in-law, Chris Akers.
