WINDHAM — Hilda M. Emery, 79, of Gray passed way Aug. 2 after a short illness.

She was born Feb. 19, 1930, in West Gardiner. Hilda was the daughter of Dexter and Gladys Carr, and was married to Forrest P. Emery Sr. of East Ryegate, Vt., on Nov. 11, 1950.

Hilda raised two sons with the belief that if you raise your children right they will turn out to be good people. She demonstrated this belief through many years taking care of the local kids in the town of Gray, who all knew her as “Gram.” Hilda was very proud of them and kept a watchful eye as they grew to adulthood.

Hilda is survived by two sons, Forrest P. Emery Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Raymond and Dean M. Emery and his wife, Deborah, of New Gloucester; two sisters, Helen Johnson of Greene and Joyce Caverly of Winthrop; and five grandchildren, Kimberly, Steven, Eric, Michael and Sherri Emery.

Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Forrest P. Emery Sr.; an infant
daughter; brothers, George, Carl and Dexter Carr; and sister, Flora
McDougal.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Ledgewood Manor and the Casco Inn for their excellent care and kindness.
