AUBURN — Joan C. Spivey passed away at Hospice House of Androscoggin on Saturday Aug. 1, with pulmonary fibrosis.

She was born in Auburn, March 21, 1928, the daughter of Michael J. and Bernice (Gayton) Carrigan. She attended Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School Class of 1945.

She was employed at New England Telephone and Telegraph Co., and she retired from AT&T in 1986.

On Sept. 1, 1956, she married George Francis Spivey. She and her husband retired to Spring Hill, Fla., and summered in South Casco on Sebago Lake. She was a member of the Court St. Baptist Church for over 60 years, before moving to Florida and becoming a member of the Northcliffe Baptist Church of Spring Hill, Fla. Joan loved bird watching, flowers, animals and mother nature. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a former member of the Woman’s Literary Union for several years and former director on the board of trustees for the Sarah Frye Home.

Survivors include her husband, George F. Spivey; brother, John Gayton Carrigan; sister-in-law, Beverly J. Carrigan; nephew, J. Michael Carrigan of Mammoth Lakes Calif.; nieces, Sue Thomas of Portland, Cheryl Ryan of Raymond and Linda Chaisson of Poland; and several great nieces and nephews; also her church family at Northcliffe Baptist Church. Joan had a warm place in her heart for her therapists, Kath and Janice, and was very grateful to Dr. Mukesh Mehta for his kindness and caring.
