AUBURN — Laurent A. “Larry” Martin, 81, of Meadowview Apartments, Lewiston, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 2, at Clover Manor after a long illness.

He was born in Lewiston, Aug. 10, 1927, the son of the late Jean Baptiste and Gabrielle Bedard Martin. He was educated in Lewiston schools and served his country with the U.S. Marines during World War II. He was truly one of “The few, the proud, the Marines.” He was married April 25, 1953, to Carmen G. Rivard.

Larry was employed as a supervisor in the shipping and receiving department at Enterprise Foundry until his retirement in 1972.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church and organized and worked its beano for several years. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Cadets, Knights of Columbus Council 106, where he also worked the beano for many years, and Wallace Assembly Fourth Degree, where he and his wife were selected as king and queen of the May Ball in the 1980s. Larry enjoyed woodworking, gardening and caring for his home.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carmen; a daughter, Ann Marie Albert and husband, Mark; two sons, Paul Martin and wife, Diane, and Donald Martin and wife, Marlene, all of Lewiston; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jacob and Adam Martin, Brad Martin and wife, Christina, Sheena Albert, Jason and Mark Martin Jr., Sean Chase and Derek Albert and wife, Samantha; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Lepage and husband, Romeo, of Auburn; and two brothers, Gaetan Martin and wife, Marie Jeanne, of Ithaca, N.Y., and Julien Martin and wife, Joline, of Arlington, Mass.

He was predeceased by a son, Mark, in 1983.
