The Mechanic Falls Historical Society will host an antique, heirloom
and collectible roadside attraction from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16,
at Congregational Hall (formally The Congo Church), 64 Elm St.,
Mechanic Falls. Local auctioneer and certified appraiser Jody McMorrow
and Paul Cote of Pa’s Trading Company, Oxford, will be on hand to
check, inspect and appraise the worth of items brought in by the
public. The appraisal fee will be $5 for each item with a three item
limit each family. The event is a fundraising venture by the society,
whose goal is to convert the former First Congregational Church
building into a museum and community center. Membership to the
historical society is open to anyone who shares in the purpose of the
society and there are no annual dues. Meetings are held on the fourth
Wednesday of each month. For more information, contact Eriks Petersons
at 345-3134 or Ken Carlin at 345-9059 or e-mail
