Derrick Gilbert and Michelle Newman

DIXFIELD — Mr. and Mrs. Richard Newman of Walpole, Mass., are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Michelle F. Newman, to Derrick M. Gilbert of the U.S. Navy in Great Lakes, Ill., son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Gilbert of Dixfield.

Miss Newman is a 2004 graduate of Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, Mass., and a 2008 graduate of the University of Maine at Orono. She is currently attending the University of Maine graduate school for her master’s degree in special education.

Mr. Gilbert is a 2002 graduate of Dirigo High School and attended the University of Maine. He is an electronics technician with the U.S. Navy.

A Jan. 2 wedding is planned.
