OPEN HOUSE
Knight House and Downing Shoe Shop
The Knight House at Great Falls Plaza representing a part of Auburn’s history will be open for visitors on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 4PM to 7PM during the Balloon Festival. The furnishings represent items of early living during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
The house was built by Caleb Lincoln, an American Revolutionary War veteran in 1796 when Maine was a part of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The Downing Shoe Shop adjacent to the Knight House was constructed in the 1790’s and was donated by Norma and Judson Stevens and moved from Perkins Ridge Road in 1981. On display in the shop are tools used in the early years of shoe making and repair.
The open house will include guided tours. Admission is free.
